British history is a broad church of events, ranging from scientific innovations to religious schisms and royal scandals. Though there have been plenty of triumphs over the years, the bad events tend to stand out the most. Indeed, the following tragedies are some of the most notorious moments in British history.

1. The Murder of the Princes

The Wars of the Roses lasted for over three decades, and the most disturbing event from this era will always be the murder of the princes.

When King Edward IV died in 1483, his twelve-year-old son (who was also called Edward) became the new monarch. But before the coronation could take place, he was captured by his uncle — Richard, the Duke of Gloucester — and imprisoned in the Tower of London. Soon after, he was joined by his younger brother.

Richard then claimed his nephews were illegitimate and declared himself the new King of England. The young princes were never seen again, and everyone assumed they had been killed. Nearly two centuries later, workmen…
