Lenin was a Marxist. I studied history at university and never came across a single Soviet historian who didn't describe Lenin as a Marxist. Yes, he adapted Marx's original theory, arguing a political party was needed to force a revolution and represent the interests of the working class, but to detach him from Marxism entirely is ludicrous.

As for being a communist, this is trickier. Communism is such a fanciful ideology that no society has ever come close to it. The part of the article in brackets that says "what we call Communism" wasn't actually written by me. An editor added it in. I wouldn't have phrased it like that.
