Resisting the Nazis was a risky thing to do. If they caught you, death or imprisonment soon followed. But there were still plenty of Europeans who were brave enough to take a stand against this vile political party.

Following the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands, the Dutch were appalled by what was happening to their homeland. Resistance movements sprang up across the country, and many citizens did their utmost to fight back.

Though she wasn’t a fighter in a combative sense, Corrie ten Boom resisted the invasion by protecting Dutch Jews from the Nazis. But despite her honorable intentions, it was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened.

The Nazi Invasion

Corrie was born and raised in Haarlem, the provincial capital of North Holland. Christianity was a core part of her upbringing, and she remained faithful throughout her life.

Alongside her sister (Betsie), Corrie looked after foster children and the mentally disabled by organizing outdoor trips and church services for them. She also earned money by working as a bookkeeper for her father (Casper), who was a local watchmaker.
