The Nazi Doctor Known as ‘The Angel of Death’
The most psychotic Nazi who ever lived
Seventy-five years after the end of the Second World War, the Nazis are still seen as the greatest villains in history. Even those with little interest in the past have a rough idea of who they were and what they did.
Everyone knows they were a fascist party built on racism who started the Second World War and exterminated six million Jews in the Holocaust.
Their leader is the ultimate personification of evil. Hitler’s face is still well-known and no other name has a closer association with villainy.
Yet there was one Nazi who was even more twisted than Hitler:
Josef Mengele.
The road to Nazism
As a young man, Mengele sought a career in science and anthropology. Though his father wanted him to take over the family business, he left his hometown of Gunzburg in October 1930 to study Philosophy and Medicine at Munich University.
At this time, Munich was the hub of a National Socialist movement fronted by Hitler.
